Default Vortech Timing Controller is it really needed?

I have been researching the technical differences between the Vortech and Comptech supercharger kits. I want to eliminate the timing controller like on the Comptech kit. I have a 4.5" pulley on my supercharger and the rest of the setup is standard Vortech. I hooked up the Vortech ESM and the engine starts and idles fine but I am concerned about high RPM. Since my pulley size is 4.5" and Comptech's is 4.6", I feel pretty comfortable attempting the Comptech method. Are the FPRs identical between Comptech and Vortech?? If so, I don't see why I need the timing controller as the setup would be almost identical to Comptech. Does anyone see why my setup wouldn't work? My setup includes: ESM installed, 4.5" pulley and Vortech FPR with stock FPR installed on fuel rail.

Comparison between the kits:
  • ESMs are identical (aka MAP Controller/Electronic Signal Modifier). Only hides the boost from the MAP sensor and keeps the engine from shutting off.
  • Vortech has a timing controller, Comptech does not
  • Fuel Pressure Regulators (FPR) appear to be identical but I am not exactly sure if the ratios are the same. This concerns me the most. Also, Comptech completely eliminates the stock FPR on the fuel rail.
  • 00-03 Vortech kit uses a 5" pulley and the Comptech uses a 4.6"
  • Oil pan needs tapped on Vortech kit (simple $12 adapter eliminated that on my setup. My oil return line goes to the oil drain. )
