I have had a similar problem. I got the codes and called the shop that did the install and they said i had a faulty black box. Since its a bad part from the factory it is covered by the warranty and should not cost you any money. I'm taking my car in next week to get things fixed. Hope this may be of some help.

This is very interesting infomation. I was unable to get the codes for mine. Do you know what type of reader was used to get the codes and what the code actually were? Also please keep me informed about the fix they make and if it is successfull.

Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got the car back tonight and everything seems to be good. The guy at the shop said he never got the car to throw the CEL but he still had the black box replaced. So hopefully all is well now. I also got a new clutch and flywheel installed while it was there.

I just picked up a Vortech SC'ed '01 this weekend. It has been running GREAT for the 1st 400 miles or so but today I had a problem. I went to pass a car and downshifted to 2nd at 30 mph. As soon as I passed ~6300 RPM the cengine fell on it's face and would only rev to 300 RPM. The CEL was on. I noticed the fuel light was on so I filled the tank halfway. I checked the coolant level (only 3 bars on the dash guage) and the oil level, reset the ECU and went out again. Same problem just above 6000 RPM. I called the previous owner and asked him about the problem. He said it had never happened before (I believe him) so I asked what elevation/fuel grade the car was tuned for. He said he was at sea level and only ran 93 octane. I figured since I am at 3000 ft that 91 would be just fine (that's all I can get), plus it has been running finr for 400 miles so far on 91. I mixed 3 gallons of 100 octane for a blend of ~94.375 to see if that would cure the problem. I drove around for a few miles to allow the fuels to mix then tried it again. Same problem...WTF! I decided to pull the code (shoulda done that sooner) and came up wit P0336 (cranshaft position sensor-performance. I figured iot had something to do with the switchover in VTEC. I reset the ECU again and went out to do it once more. I slowly accelerated in 2nd gear up to 6000 RPM, as soon as I saw 6500 RPM it happened again. This is where I stand. The car runs normal under 6500 RPM after I reset the codes but I obviously want to get this sorted out ASAP.

My question is: Has this been a common problem for owners with modified cars? Does the CKPS just go bad all of a sudden?

It is an '01 with 24.000 miles, Vortech aftercooled SC.

Thank you.

I talked to a buddy that works at Honda and he talked to the service tech. Long story short--I unplugged both sensors on the rear of the valve cover and reconnected them.

Problem solved!

Well my problem is BACK!

I tried bending the pns in the sensors to force an interference fit for better contact, did not help.

I applied electrically conductive paste to the plugs, did not help.

I am getting ready to swap my sensors with known good parts to see if it does the trick.

I want all my revs dammit!!!
