The velocity stack is insulated from the compressor by the silicon tube. Should be OK.

It gets just as hot as the cold side housing does though, and that's damn hot.

I honestly don't see why to use both that airflow lip and the filter.

The lip itself is not useless tho, even if gains are minimal.
I can see a parallell to electric ducted fan jets I have been building over the years, and that type of intakelip really helps the fan. We are probably talking even higher airvelocities then, but no real pressure. The higher the airvelocity, the better gains from the lip.

I would either run the intakelip for soundreasons and minimal gains, or only a filter for safetyreasons. To me the filter is the clear choice.

Theoretically, if you had the intakelip inside a big volume of air that was filtered, maybe the best of the two worlds could be gained. The lip gotta be free in the airvolume and the filter gotta have enough area to take the airvelocity through it to a speed that won't give turbulence around the intakelip.
