My tuner/mechanic both said they would install springs/retainers for free if I bought them because they have seen s2's blow from them.

is this usually an AP1 valvetrain related failure or AP2?

very good info thanks, Ya @ Inline knows his sh-t,..........

If I do go ahead and get the supertech valves, flat top or dish-top?
Listen to Ya he can tell you what I and many others have found the hard way the factory exhaust valves are going to warp with FI. So if you are going to pull the head at minimum put in a set of Exhaust valves. If you have more money add the intake valves, then guides and finally the springs.

Like i mentioned before, i beliveve the stock valves will eventually fail and drop if putting down a decent amount of power over time. I have talked to many highly knowledgeable people, IP being one, and all conclude that the valves and retainers need upgraded eventually. Also, e85 is a great way to reduce cylinder temps and ill be going to this very soon.

I have lost a motor due to the face of the valve breaking off the stem. A clean cut. When I inspected the valves closely, I found that the face of the valve was not magnetic while the stem was. This lead me to believe that the faces are stainless but the stems arent and the valve breaks off right at the seam of the two metals when it heats up. I dropped the face of the valve, messed up the block, head and turbo. Its worth the $300-$400 upgrade trust me.

I talked to Ya about the issue and he said that it was not uncommon with high hp s2000's. And I was already spraying meth.
I've dropped a valve and the face broke off and got "eaten" by an intake valve. Not pretty. I'd recommend changing the valves.

I just got my Supertech dual valve springs, spring seat locators, ti retainers, inconel ex valves and nitride coated ss in valves from Laskey Racing for $675 shipped. Mike Laskey has great service and he is a great guy to do business with. I highly recommend giving him a call if you plan on building the head.

Also, a local well known head shop will be decking the head surface to a mirror finish, doing a 3 angle valve job, lapping the valves, bead blasting the head, checking for cracks, hot tank cleaning and full assembly for $175. Tell me that's not a great deal. Lol
