Valve keepers
#2
If your head is disassembled take the retainer and put it over the valve stem, put the keepers on the stem as they are on the when assembled on the head then slide the retainer up so the keepers are keeping it from popping off. Compare to the stock retainer and if its similar then you know your good. If you already know that it fits and your just asking if the keepers should be replaced in general, then no. I wouldn't waste your money. I've been machinist for 6 years and have never seen a keeper "go bad"
If your buying a complete gasket kit for your motor, check to see if it comes with new keepers. Never ordered one for the S2k but i know on Subaru gasket kits they are in there.

Where are you ordering from?
I just bought some retainers and keepers to do the AP1 to AP2 intake side upgrade. I think for 9 retainers (I bought an extra one) and 17 keepers I paid about $65 shipped from Honda Parts Now. They were not more than a couple bucks a piece.

I called the local Honda dealership and they told me I would have to buy each one separately (32 total) They said they would cost $6.xx a piece.

Do your research man, you can get them on the cheap.

32 x $1.75 = 56.00
This is for an AP2, which I would suggest over ap1 parts.
