Default Update - Turbo Leaking

Hey guys,

Running an inline stage 1 kit with a Precision gt30 dual BB/water cooled turbo. Yesterday went to the 1/8th mile strip and noticed after a WOT, especially the second one, I was smoking from my exhaust. I have a electronic cutout as well and both stock and cutout were smoking pretty bad. It was white smoke which afer 2 minutes went way. I took it again down the track to confirm if it would happen again and it did. I drove home without any issues and the smoke never appeared as long as I dont push it.

When looking at my BOV, i saw a bit of oil around it. From what i read, it seems as though the turbo might be leaking which is causing this smoke. Even a few small drops of oil can cause a good amount of smoke.

At the track and when I got home, I checked my oil level and its perfect. Coolant is perfect.

Do you think the turbo is shot? Probably has around 20-30k miles since I purchased it used. If I need to rebuild it, would I need to get another tune?

Also, to remove the turbo, do yo uneed to remove the turbo manifold or can you get it from the bottom? Should I remove some piping to verify if it's leaking?

Thanks

Sounds like the drain might be backing up.

Is there a way to fix that? I checked the drain and it's laround a 50-60 degree angle. Not completely vertical but more vertical than horizontal.

When I bought the inline stage 1 kit, the 5865 turbo that came with it went bad the first month! I sent it to precision and they rebuilt it under warranty.

Here are the pics. Tried to adjust the oil drail position but if it was completely vertical, it would bend the hose. Had the kit for about 10-11k miles and this started happening the last 1-2 months when I WOT. The pipe shown is from my intake. So it looks like its leaking potentially from both sides since my wastegate has some oil.

That is not a good location at all! I tried that once and had the same issue. Your two options are the girdle (section between pan and block). or if you're facing the front of your car, the top right portion of the pan. That is where I have mine and have had zero issues since. The spot that you have yours in is where all the oil collects because the motor is at a slant.

We need to have a sticky on top of the FI forum for how to setup the oil return.
