Turbo vs. SC: 0-60 and 0-100 times?
#21
ok sure the s/c makes power instantly. But seriously though.
The vortec S/Ced s2000 i drove DIDNT even Produce boost under 6k. It made max boost @ 9000 rpms (5.5psi)
it was something like 2 psi @ 6k, 3.5psi@ 7k, 4psi @ 8k and finally 5.5psi @ 9k.
lets assume a turbo kit also running 5.5 psi...Well it would make 3.5 psi @ 4k, 5.5 psi @ 5k, 5.5psi @ 6k, 5.5psi @ 7k and so on. basically a turbo makes full boost through its entire range.
in your example of 11psi...you might be making boost under 6k. But it still would be less than 3 or 4 psi even @ 5krpms.
more power under the curve is important. Even in Vtec. The turbo will always make full boost throughout that 6-9k. The S/C may still make boost through that range but the boost builds progessively as rpms do
*these numbers for listed as EXAMPLE only and should not be taken as actual proven psi numbers. listed to prove a point only.*

hboy7777 -> When you have 300+ whp, it is not that easy to launch the car as it is with stock. When I was N/A, I was launching at 7K and when I was at 11psi, I tried it with 5K and I was spinning like crazy. If you launch the car at 7K with 300+ whp, there is a good chance you will be posting to WTB Section looking for a diff.
MasterGrandKhan -> It looks like you drove a Comptech Kit. When my Vortech was at 11psi, I was making 4psi at 3000 rpm and I was making like 8psi at 6000.

There is a big factor in the DRIVER. Cause PRS2k is running mid to low 12's on 10psi with 350rwhp and street tires.
Its hard to even make a generalization since there are so many factors but I guess its safe to say a stock SC either vortech or comptech are probably low to mid 13 second cars and POSSIBLY high 12's if driven right.
A turbo...well you can't say. A stock turbo means nothing as people run all different kinds of boost levels so "stock" means nothing. There are people who start off with 14PSI, are they stock? If so, then what are the 8psi guys...slower then stock? Get my point?

basically what i am getting to is if you put these 2 different setups head to head and DRIVE THEM THE RIGHT WAY. you will be maximizing both setups but turbo will have full boost sooner, almost instantly to where the sc car will have to wait till redline to get full power. get it yet?
i am not againt sc s2k's, i love their reliability, longevity and simplicity. i actually recomend them to customers if they dont want the constant tinkering a turbo requires. but as far as raw performance turbo wins hands down. get a video of you and our friend at the drag strip and we'll see the outcome.

Launching at 7K gets wheelspin in a stock car so I assume that it would also produce wheelspin in a car with 100 more rwhp. How is that going to damage the diff? I think it's the tires that will take the most beating. There are tons of S2Ki drivers launching with over 300 rwhp without issues (some with a LOT more than 300).

The only part where the SC will be faster is before VTEC.
Only case where a SC would be faster or same fast as a TC from 0 to 60 is a situation where you drop the clutch at 7500rpm and get full, perfect traction with no rpm drop and the TC is writting a SMS to his girlfriend instead of paying attention to this "race".

I seriously doubt that a supercharged s2k will make more power in the lower rpm range than a turbo car.My supercharged s is a pig until 6k,after that im sure the race between both would be interesting asuming boost levels are simular.Just go and compare dyno sheets from this forum and you will see for your self.

the S2000 i drove WAS INDEED a VORTEC. it only had the 5.5PSi pully which is why it Did not Boost AT ALL under vtec.
