Default Tapping the timing chain cover

Has anyone had problems tapping the timing chain cover? Mine cracked for some reason and its dumping a significant amount of oil. I was told by a shop that I should tap the oil pan and that the timing chain oil drain fitting could be hitting the power steering.

I tapped the oil pan at the highest location possible. This makes more sense for people running logs or ram horn style manifolds I think due to where the turbo is located.

I'm not sure what the best procedure is on a forward facing manifold. Timing chain, or the girdle or whatever they call it, would probably make more sense here.

The timing chain cover is actually the ideal location since it's actually above the oil level and it's really ideal for people with a front facing turbo since its in the perfect location.

I talked to inline pro. In going to have them tap the oil pan and fix all the issues. Sick of these issues and just going to pay the price to have it all fixed and done with at this point. It's going to be expensive but I shouldn't have anymore issues.

If your drain is hitting your steering rack, you probably just need a different angled hose end. Or, maybe it was damaged when the motor was reinstalled to the car, etc.

Did it crack the timing cover, or just the bung for the oil drain?

Just where the bung was welded. well that is what it looks like. Its completely cracked. I am going to have my stock one installed and I am just going to have the pan tapped so I don't have to worry about there being a chance it will crack again in the future. Its also fairly congested in that area.

Probably the wrong rod was used to weld or poorly welded. Takes a bit more skill to weld to the cast timing chain cover; any pics?

I will get them off of mine. Its kinda hard to see since its powder coated, and now the shop put jb weld all over it, but its cracked where its dumping a lot of oil out of that area.

If it did crack by hitting the steering rack (I'm not sure I believe that) moving it to the oil pan wouldnt change anything. Either way, it needs to be repaired, so if you want to move it, then go ahead.

Well they don't want to tap the timing chain cover again. They claim that the oil pan is the way to go. Also there is nothing it will hit if it is tapped correctly on the oil pan. I don't know honestly, I am just sick of the problems and I don't really have the place or the time to do it all over again myself. I think it cracked because the person I had taken it to, did not weld it properly.
