Yeah yeah yeah, and I'm killing the bunnies and taking the ice caps away from the polar bears. LOL. If I cared about that junk I'd drive a Volt or something (cause I sure ain't driving a Prius).

That Hytech unit looks legit! But I still wonder how long it will hold up.

And when the wife and g/f smell of the stuff from sitting in your car, it's because the exhaust fumes get into their clothes which also means it's also getting into their lungs. But hey, people smoke cigs pumping shit straight into their lungs too. Whatever floats your boat.

The rotary in the buggy used to make your eyes water and your nose run if you stood within 10ft of the car whilst it was warming up. Good shit!

I guess I'll try the stock cat then.

Honestly I'd rather lose 20whp than have my wife smelling like gas and cleaning by bumper with simple green twice a week.

Maybe I'll do a tune on a test pipe and stock cat and report my results.
Keep in mind, all the stuff coming out of the exhaust that smells like crap is not exactly good for your health. Unburned hydrbocarbons, NOx, etc. The job of the cat is to turn that harmful to your health stuff into harmless carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water. To keep the EGTs down and make the cat last longer, you have to run richer A/F. Basically fuel cooling.

Also, you can probably tune for a test pipe and put a cat on and be okay, but not the other way around. Going from the cat to a test pipe will change the volumetric efficiency of the engine and make it run lean. Depending on how lean the turner goes with the A/F, it could grenade your engine.
No wonder many of you are burning out these things... More fuel may keep EGT's down, but excess fuel is what burns catalytic converters up as they are designed to burn said fuel.

I had two catalytic converters on my 550+whp SHO for 9 years before I sold it. I never melted them or blew them out.

If your burning oil, well thats a seperate issue, you will smell it. But mostly at a stop, its everyone else behind you that gets the joy.

The stocker should get you there . I am sitting around 400whp with the stock exhaust/cat with a 12psi Vortech. No smell or soot on the bumper . I am however giving up some free power . Its all good though . I have been tempted to put on a test pipe for a quick dyno pull but i don't know if it's really worth it .

I think you're REALLY over-estimating how much of a problem this will be. You definitely shouldn't be able to smell gas/fumes on your clothes after driving. You also shouldn't have to clean your bumper numerous times a WEEK.

Get a good tune and a test pipe, and you should be fine. You may also want to check your injectors/fuel pump if you're smelling gas in the cabin.

My last s2000 has a turbo setup with test pipe. Smelled Bad.

My last car was a 996 turbo. Modded to 600whp/575wtq. No cats. Smelled bad and left marks on the bumpers.

I don't think I want to chance it again. Especially with the lack of good tuners up here in canada.
