Default Spark plug talk

My fellow S2Ki boost junky's,
I have been running the NGK BKR8EIX... I ran them with my greddy kit and experienced quite a bit of knock. Most of that was due to CA 91 octane, overpriced urine. I am now about ready to go tune my new setup! Inlinepro 6265, log manifold, EMS V1 and an AEM water/meth system.
I'm going to use the water injection only on high boost setting to combat the 91 pump a ill bit. I don't want to deal with race gas or E85 as this car is going to to do a lot of long distance road trips, including SF to houston in March!
Do you guys think the 7 hear range is a better option than the 8 that I'm runnimg? BKR7EIX??

With boost, negative... the range 8 is definitely the sweet spot for us boosted dudes. I think even Joey runs a range 8 plug and hes boosting it up pretty hardcore.

I run 9s with race gas, 8s with pump.

7s would be going the wrong way,the lower the number, the hotter the plug

Ohh I must have misread, I though you were running 8s on Q16? But ya 8s on pump is pretty standard

8's work great. I'm actually still on them.

Yep, 7 dont dissipate heat like 8 do, and as a result your combustion temps will be hotter and more detonation tendencies can occur. You can get pre ignition even becuase the plug is so hot that it can ignite the fuel before the ignition system fires it, and that's bad news. Running water or water meth will definitely help to combat all of this though, but no point in taking a chance when 8's are proven.

Also you mentioned running just 100% water in your injection, that's fine, but just realize your going to be placing much higher demands on your ignition system to combust your charge, you will experience a lower threshold for spark blowout and may not make the power/tune you would have normally with a more standard and efficient burning 50/50 ratio of water and meth. I would even consider running a higher percentage of meth vs water in some cases, so keep that on the table as well.

Ran bkr7e's at 900+whp on E85 without any problems. Daily driven around 700whp. Personally I think people jump to colder plugs sooner than necessary, not to say 8's aren't ok for some setups, but noone even asked how much power the OP was going to make and just said run 8's. 174mph traps with 8's or colder, clearly the plug to go with, 130mph traps worth of power, I don't think so.

E85 runs much, much cooler. Therefore you can get away with sticking to oem heat range. I assume you were having spark blow out or combustion issues with a lower heat range which is why you stuck with 7's for your set up? If not, then I'd say your putting your motor at a closer threshold to detonation risk then you need to. But if your running this thing purely to race wide open for short durations, then plugs may be the least of your concerns. Your on a completely different level then 99% percent of us. The OP is running 91 pump with a log manifold. Not the best advice to run 7's in my opinion.

I have actually always ran bkr7e"s on my turbo integra and civic. I have lots of these spark plugs left over so I been running the same plug on my s2000 for a few years as well. Seems to make 500whp with no problems. When I run out of these plugs I'll eventually switch to the irridiam 8"s
