No offense, but a 5 hour drive shouldn't set ANY car on fire. Neither should a 17 hour drive.

There is a underlying cause, most likely caused by the heat from the manifold.

I am glad to hear that you at least warned him of the issue, I always worry about stuff like that every time I sell a car and why I won't buy a car unless it is stock.

That being said, this is exactly why I am taking sooo much time in each set of my build to make sure things will with stand the extra abuse. I am relocating my battery, got rid of the AC lines, I am going to build a heat shield and wrap everything I can and last but not least have a good fire extinguisher on hand. I have even debated on the plumbing the cockpit and under hood with a system.

Hopefully something good comes out of this mess.

That's exactly what happ the manifold generated so much heat it melted the fuse box it was not my dd so I did not have any heat issues I told him the longest drive was 100 miles

with SpecOps and SlowS2k.

My downpipe is about 2-3" from my fuse box, and my battery is about 6" from the header. Everything is ceramic coated, though... I drove it about 5 hours straight back from Sarasota a few weeks back, and it spun like a top the entire way. No heat issues at all.

Something tells me he was during highway pull after highway pull to melt everything to the point of a fire (without oil / other combustibles leaking).

I take it he did not have an extinguisher? That is a MUST in any custom FI car, IMO.

Also, anyone else find it funny he saw flames inside the car before he noticed it was on fire?!?! I would think the melted plastic smell / smoke would have been a dead give away!

Turbo cars melt shit and catch fire when not insulated.. I can see some heat wrap on the DP, but that's it.
