Thanks for the info Chris. North Carolina's method of emissions checks are pretty rough. They plug a computer into the car's ECU and check for codes. If the ECU is out of the loop, throwing even a minor code, or if the engine is swapped (B series swap in a civic for instance don't have matching VIN number), it won't pass. Unless AEM EMS will allow for a code free reading from the ECU, I don't think it will work.

Either way, from what you describe, it seems like a fairly easy procedure to put an even SEMed car back on the factory ECU.

Depending on the savings over doing it in steps, I might just go stand alone right from the get-go then. It's going to have to be after we get the tax return though, so hopefully the sale hasn't run it's course by then.

Thank you again for your time. I look forward to getting the ball rolling.
All of our standard kits are OBD2 compliant.

The Hondata product offers OBD2 compliance, however, the ECU does not show up as an S2000 ECU if that is looked at. All of our stand alone engine management kits are of course sold for off road use only.

regards,
-- Chris

So for the 06+ the standard kit puts roughly 340 down and the high boost 360?

hi Joe --

That is a very good question. We do plan to apply for CARB exemption for California customers. Systems would be retroactively covered as long as they are identical to the approved system's components as well as installation method.

That being said, I want to know that we have no clear time line on when this will happen. There have been recent changes to how the Air Resource Board processes excemption requests. The process has become much more lengthy (10+ months) and much more costly (over $12,000) including having to give up a car possibly as long as 10 months. Since we do not have a clear time frame, you should consider this before purchasing.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

cheers,
-- Chris
Wow! So the absolute minimum time it would be is 10 months before these kits go carb legal?

Guess I'm gonna have to hold off for now.

No. The dynos for 06+ listed are both "high boost". One is all stock exhuast/headers. The other is with good free flowing aftermarket headers and exhaust. The standard kit at 6 psi will produce approximately 310-320 wheel hp.

I checked out The SOS system in person today. Very clean install. A quick ride in the car and I was impressed. The Sc is fairly quiet and makes the car a real sleeper.

I am 95% sold!

I haven't seen it yet but I am 100% sold after talking with the SOS guys on the phone yesterday, very knowledgable.

I am also about 95% sold on this kit.

Especially since I sent an e-mail to SOS requesting a total price shipped to my house for the SL model. The response I got back said the price for the SL model would be exactly the same. It also stated that in SOS's opinion, there was no downside to the SL model if you ignore the extra oil change for the charger its self.

FYI, the e-mail from Chris also stated that the lead time is currently about 3 weeks. They will charge you $500 deposit when you order and then the balance when the kit ships.

What does everyone else think about the SL model, ignoring the extra maintenance of changing the oil in the charger? To me it's a no brainer; less things to go wrong and no messing with extra oil lines.

Basically the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is knowing the slippery slope I'm about to step out on. I would order the base kit for my 05. I know in the future I would probably want to go AEM EMS, pulley, injectors, fuel pump, and tune for higher power. Now, I would plan on using the AEM serial gauge or two to monitor things. How would you guys feel about installing the base kit on a stock car and not adding anything else for a year or two. Meaning no gauges since I want to use the AEM gauge but I wont have the EMS yet. How do you guys feel about that? I guess the safe thing to do would be jump on the dyno and check AFR after install?

My 01 AP1 was one of the first SOS SC'ed beta test cars. It is an awesome kit backed by a good warranty. I am making roughly 300 whp on a bone stock AP1 with NO exhaust, test pipe, or any other engine mods OTHER than the SC kit. It is stock injectors with an FMU as well as the other parts that come with the kit.

It retains great daily driveability as I havent had any issues even with the FMU. I plan on going standalone eventually with upgraded injectors, etc. But for the money its a great kit with plenty of potential. Plus it's cheaper than Comptech with simplified installation and/or removal. I'll post pics of my setup so you can get the idea.

Chris and the entire SOS crew are very knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction, even if you're on a budget. Back in August I too was contemplating which FI application I would go with, coincidentally SOS was just releasing their BETA test program for AZ locals. After talking with them and seeing their products I was sold, not only because I was local or the price was affordable, but because they have a good track record of taking care of their customers, something that can be hard to find these days. I approve of this kit 110%.

Couple of questions:

1/ If you want to upgrade your clutch do you have to remove the supercharger like some other kits?

2/ Does the standard electronics for AP1 require splicing wires like the vortech system?

Hmm? I was thinking KW, but with the AVAILABILITY! And the COST of this kit, I may have to reconsider.

Can anyone chime in some comparisons regarding performance by first hand experience?

Great Kit!
