S2000 Forced Induction S2000 Turbocharging and S2000 supercharging, for that extra kick.

For SC 400-450 whp S is it best to rebuild engine or buy used F22?

Spoke with the guy who would be doing the engine swap for me.
He said if I were to buy just the brand new oem short block it would add an extra $450 in labor swapping parts over to the new block since they don't come with everything.

So would wind up costing quite a bit more going with a brand new short block and rebuilding the head.

Just to buy the block at say $2700+$1200 for a head rebuild or so puts me at $3900. Plus the swap labor cost putting it at over 5 grand easily 6 ish with an AP2 trans.

I could buy a low mileage used F22 for around $2500 or so. I could sell off my old engine all together or in parts and get back easily $500-800 or so.

So I could save at least a couple grand it looks like buying a used F22 and direct swapping it in. I could get an AP2 trans and cover install cost plus have some left over for the same price as just buy new oem block and rebuilding head.

Starting to lean towards used F22 I think.

Depending if your sleeves are good? You could just hone the cylinders and put rings in it. I might do that...

Only difference is i will be doing the work so ill save alot of money doing it.

Yeah true. Don't they usually need to be re sleeved? Thought that was the case for most S2000 engines.

I'm definitely looking for the cheapest, yet reliable way to go about it as I am buying an investment house shortly so any extra cash is a plus haha.

Well...it is typical that you need to bore the cylinders in almost all conditions of a rebuild. But ive done a "down and dirty" on two honda engines before (D16Y8 and JDM 97 spec B18C-R) with luck. However they were not FRM sleeves though.

For me, given ill be doing the majority of the work other than machine work. Its worth a shot with just re ringing the pistons. I will have entire head redone as well. Otherwise an option is to bore the sleeves for oversized mahle pistons with a stock compression. Mike at king motoraports in wi told me he can have the mahles (the ones designed for our sleeves) cuatom made to whatever compression ratio i want...

Oh nice! Yeah that does sound like a good option for you.

I really don't have the time or space to do it myself unfortunately so will be having a shop do it for me to limit downtime etc.

I feel ya. I just bought my first house so im super busy with renovating it right now. The garage needs to be done before i move in so i can tackle the s2000 engine in fall. Thats my plan at least.

Yeah the house I am buying I might live in briefly. Has a HUGE garage so if I can somehow find time to do it myself I will but highly doubt it.

Good call! In my eyes doing engine builds on hondas is very fun, and with the aid of the factory repair manual its a breeze.
