For SC 400-450 whp S is it best to rebuild engine or buy used F22?
I have been looking for good deals on used F22 engines. I am just wondering what people have paid for a good quality rebuild on a 2.0 while turning it into a 2.2?
Is it much more expensive to do a full rebuild and 2.2 stroker than buying a used F22?
Just trying to weigh my options. I don't want to lower the compression or anything like that and want a rebuild with oem pistons etc.
I'm thinking just buying a used F22 will be the most economical way to go about it though.

Just buy a 2.2 bottom end directly from honda, you shouldnt have a dollar over 3k for one new from honda if you make the right connections. Ive seen OEM blocks go a lot higer power and be just fine, especially since youre using a SC reliability will all be in the tune.\
Skip the economical side and get the new oem short block, that way you dont have to worry about any problems down the road with an engine thats been tampered with or getting ripped off paying used for what you could get new.
Alittle machine work to refresh your AP1 head, bronze valve guides and then slap it on the 2.2 short end and enjoy! There have been debates as to where to set the rev limited but I stay on the safe side of caution and wouldnt rev over 8400.
I can provide links or direct you towards many reliable sources get a BNIB 2.2 short end for 3k or under but PM me cause some mods get offended and delete those posts I make trying to save people money.

If you were going for OEM parts, it would be most logical to simply buy an F22. The time, and more importantly, money to rebuild a F20 with new crank and rods doesn't really make sense. If you were building up a low compression, sleeved block with more than 2.2 then that would be different. Finding a decently low miles F22 will be much cheaper, faster, and easier.

I thought of the new shortblock. Price would go way up since they don't come with any pumps or accessories etc right? I would definitely want new oil pump, water pump etc. My engine has 169k miles on it so want everything replaced pretty much.
Yeah used F22 can be had for really cheap. Haven't found any engines under 40k miles recently.
I'll be buying an AP2 trans as well.

Im in the same boat moddicition. My piston rings are fried and I want to go 2.2L. I have good connections at King Motorsports and Im trying to find a deal on a used F22 long block. The F22s seem to be the most durable out of the S2000 motors, so I feel a 100% stock F22 will do the job. It just BLOWS that it doesn't rev high.

Yeah I'm sure I'll miss the 9k. Seems to not last long revving the f22 to 9k for track guys at all. Adding boost probably not too long either.
I'll probably rev it to 8400 or so.
