I welded a bung to the oil pan. I was close to pulling the trigger on the timing chain that I bought one but didn't do it. I just followed Vortech's advise on where to tap on the pan and welded a bung there.

I'm not a fan of the drain plug either, the less you need to mess around, the less likely something will go wrong.
