Default Reliable Forced Induction - Greddy Turbo

I had a few questions on FI for the S, and I thought I would share my thoughts. At first, I was really looking hard at supercharging the car. After reading about reliability, cost, and heat, I never really considered a turbocharger; however, I am starting to lean more towards the turbo for one simple reason - I want more low-end torque.

I'm not looking for 400, but a little over 300 I think will work great. I think the Greddy kit will be great, but it seems to be a lot more expensive than the SC (Science of Speed). After the kit, boost controller, catch can, BOV, FlashPro, and maybe an oil cooler/upgraded radiator for track days, it really starts to add up.

I was just wondering, for the Greddy owners (or ex-owners), what made you decide to pull the trigger instead of going for the cheaper SC.

I would also like to add that this would be my first forced induction car. I'm looking for reliability and of course fun.

I would really re-think the SC idea. Most people go turbo for bigger power. I really liked the idea of hitting boost/ more HP TQ early where the S2k seems to lack it. Which is why I went turbo, but you need so much more stuff to go turbo. So for reliablity and cost the SC is a good idea. If I knew now what I knew then I would have gone SC but at the time there were only 2 kits and comptech at the time was out of buisness. With the new SC kits and the power they are making and your power goals I would lean to going SC.

That's a really good point. I go back and forth in the SC department between the SOT and SoS. I think in the end, the SOT is probably going to be a lot more fun even though it is a little more costly for my needs. I don't see a ton of people with them on their car on the forum, but the customer service seems to be fantastic and the people that have them on their car can't stop raving about it

If only the kit was available for DBW! Agh.

I'd buy the sos myself. Most people want the greddy kit because you get more low end torque faster than a supercharger. The problem is you hit the glass ceiling on those pretty fast in terms of power and upgrade ability.

I have been down this road several times, in fact I am in the midst of my 3rd build on this car b/c I just can't seem to get it right the first time.

If I were you, I would by a base Vortech kit w/o aftercooler or fuel system which is about $3,000. You can upgrade the V3 on the front end to lay down more power just like the Paxton 1200-1500 switch. Order a Flashpro, FMIC, Injectors, header and go from there.

If you are looking for better power then call Mase and order his kit a 6262.

Other than that you will need a clutch and probably want catback exhaust or cutout and a good tuner.

Both are very reliable, and have strengths and weaknesses but either can make 500HP and are completely reversible if you want to sell the car.

Good Luck

FYI all the Vortech kits are after cooled. Comptech offered a non aftercooler and after cooled versions.
An upgraded supercharger kit will definitely out perform a Greddy kit as that does not have much expandability. Stock bolt on any of the sc kits will also outperform the Greddy.
Greddy kit will probably "Feel" faster though due to the low end torque it has.

That's some sound advice. Start small and upgrade. I really appreciate the advice. I'll do some more research into the Vortech and Comptech kits. It sounds like for my needs, SC is the best choice.

I have a greddy because I thought I wanted low end torque and 300 would be enough. Problem is that at 11psi with a Mase tune I'm only making 275/220 so I'm upgrading to the mase hotside. It's cheaper to buy his hotside than to sell all my stuff and buy his full kit.

I feel like the greddy kit is maxed out and I never broke 300hp.
