Default Pulleys, tensioners and belts

With my new blower in, I am having a new pulley made. The nose pulley on the new blower is 7mm bigger, and the crank pulley will be 34mm bigger than the original.

So this total of crank and nose pulley diameter increase of 41mm x 3.14 = 128mm of extra pulley surface area or approximately 5 inches.

The current belt, before the new pulley is fairly tight right now, I don't know that it would even go on very well when the new crank pulley comes in. I think the pulley is so much bigger the belt will be too short

So when I get the new pulley, should I look for a belt the full 5 inches longer?

I am not sure what role the tensioner plays with the strength of the spring. If I get a belt 3 or 4 inches longer, to keep it tight and try to avoid slip, will it be too tight or does the spring keep the tension constant as long as the belt is long enough to fit?

Not sure I am being real articulate here, but does the strength of the spring determine the tension or does belt length play a significant part? I am hoping to find a belt some length longer, but if I go the full five inches will I make it looser and be better off going shorter and the tensioner will sort it all out?

I hope that made sense.

In my experience the tensioner is there for when the belt stretches. I would get a belt as tight as possible, which will be a PITA to pull in. I would take a sting or rope when you get the pulliies on and then get one slightly larger.

No hurry. Finally got all my parts. Should start putting her together this weekend. Hope to be done by the end of the month.

I've got the big pulley, so I won't need that one to finish. Take your time
