Didn't you just get a valve adjustment. Did it start after that?

hahah, it's not alex's fault. I didn't get the adjustments yet. but I think the sound it was making was a prelude to this noise. Thats why I wanted to get it adjusted, but it might be something totally different.

thanks courage!

Joe, unfortunately, I don't have a bore scope. Is there another way of finding out?

what's worse a spun bearing or a melted piston?

but seriously, in either case wouldn't I replace both?

Thanks for the condolences! I appreciate any other ideas too. I'm prepared mentally for the worse just in case.
That sounds like a rod knock to me. I just spun a bearing last month, sounded just like that. This is what you will see in your oil pan if it was

and this is what your bearing and crank will look like.

All in all a melted piston is much worse than a spun bearing. When I spun mine, I just replaced the crank and bearings and reinstalled the motor.

Thanks Artisan, those pics help alot! Did you have catastrophic failure? what lead to the failure? I'm assuming running too low oil? (I've been meaning to install an oil pressure gauge too )

I'd like to learn from this and prevent it from happening if possible.

So all you did was replace the crank (~$750) and the bearings? ($$??)

how much was it just for parts? Was there any scoring on the walls?

thanks again for your input!

Paul you can find used AP1 cranks for 150 or so in good condition.
Don't worry about things like that till u know the problem for sure though, it just starts driving u crazy.

So your car was starting to make noise before? I know your valvetrain seemed way too loud to me when you were showing me the sound.. Who did your last valve adjustment?

You should get the AEM copper pressure sensor like I have for the oil pressure. They are only around 65 dollars or so if I remember correctly..

Super white plugs usually means lean conditions.

that's true, My 2 year old is the only thing keeping me sane, if that even sounds believable!

I like how the sensor on yours is pretty much plug and play with the EMS, that's gonna be first on my list.

Portflow did the valve job last THOSE NOOBS! jk. I thought it was kinda loud too. I was planning a Tech day with a couple of other guys to do valve adjustments and change out fluids etc...

I didn't check my plugs before the tune with mase so I don't know when they turned white. But that's hindsight now. I'll keep an eye out on the next batch when i get to the bottom of this.

btw, I took a closer look at my coil #2 and it does have oil all over it. It looks like the valve seal wasnt sealing. so the oil issue is solved. Thanks to everyone for the help.

Got family night tonight so I can't work on the car yet. Maybe I'll pull the valve cover when everyones asleep
