If it got hot enough to melt a piston down you would see evidence of that on the plugs I would think...
Paul the breather blows a good ammount of air ( I know mine does) so I guess you would look for actual puffing oil out of it then?
Start with the tensioner first
then check the valvetrain and valve adjustment
then do a leakdown
then pull the pan
that's the order I would go in personally.

as in the valve is not sealing? or did you mean the rubber/grommet on the valve cover where the spark plug hole is? I'll check it anyways
I had the seal on the valve cover go bad and a had nasty miss-fires and oil on the threads of the plugs as well as on my coil pack. I doubt that's your case though, but definitely check it. The coil packs should have zero oil, if there's oil on them or down there then one of the seals is leaking.

Mase also asked me to send him some better pics and check the valve cover seals for the oil (previously mentioned) leak.
he also said that blow by would produce lots of smoke of which I have very little of.

Damn man, sorry to here this! Could it have maybe dropped a valve? once you take the valve cover off you should be able to tell. Its bad to say but i would plan on it not being the TCT.

Awe man...bummer. I hope it's just the TCT. Good luck! I wish I could see the video but I'm behind a firewall. Good luck, man...hate to see such a nice motor bite the dust. At least you've caught it early!

Yikes ! That does not sound good ! Have you checked youre oil pressure ? Before ripping it apart id get a bore scope and take a peek inside that oil filled cylinder . Scuffed cylinder walls or melted pistons would make a noise like this . Im not so sure a tct would make that much noise . Keep us updated and best of luck !

thanks courage!
Joe, unfortunately, I don't have a bore scope. Is there another way of finding out?
what's worse a spun bearing or a melted piston?
but seriously, in either case wouldn't I replace both?
Thanks for the condolences! I appreciate any other ideas too. I'm prepared mentally for the worse just in case.
