Default my f24 build

ok so i have an extra block and i am starting my k24 build with the h22 rods and pistons, and the k24 crank. I need to either bore and hone the sleeves or re-sleeve the block. here is my delima to bore the block means i need new psitons, to re-sleeve i don't. so to bore would run me about $700 bucks to re-sleeve it about $1000 I have heard that boreing out or blocks can make them weaker. I am running turbo dd at 7-8 psi, but have a duel stage boost controller so i plan on running the other end of it 15-18psi can a bored out block handle that kinda boost. or should i shell out the dough and get the re-sleeve?

I think you shouldnt use Stock H22 rods....because they are not as stout as the F2x rods and dont know if they will handle 15-18psi all day especially with the torque increase with the extra cubes. I say a rehone is all you need as long as the FRM sleeves look good. Mahle makes good FRP pistons.

hmm, I thought you use the pistons from the H22a, which are also 87mm bore.... furthermore, those pistons are FRM friendly, so they are "plug and play" sort of speak. Also, you can bore out the block to 87.25 without compromising integrity... just get oversize h22 pistons to match.

wait, doesn't k1 Technologies offer a k24/2000 conversion rod? I've heard that it doesn't have the correct length or something like that.. can anyone confirm?

Yeah as long as the sleeves are in good shape get some mahle pistons and hone the FRM bores before fitting the pistons. If an aftermarket H22 rod will work ie : Eagle, pauter, etc I would go that route. Dunno how strong the H22 factory rods are. What are the planned rpms of this engine? If planning on 8k or more aftermarket rods are even more important.

that is the problem in the block i am building i NEED to bore and hone or re-sleeve it. one of the cylinder walls has a litte scoreing. I am not worried about the rods, i know h22 motors ppl boost that high with stock block and i will prob only be going to 8k, but that is up to my tuner honestly.

If your bore can be recovered by going oversized to 87.25mm H22 pistons thats going to be your cheapest option. Mahle has low compression H22 pistons (-7.0cc from memory).

I would get a machine shop to hone/bore the bad cylinder first to see if its recoverable.

If i was going to bore i was going to 88mm, with mahle h22 low compression pistons. just didn't know if it was safe to bore that much. or if anyone had done it and boosted after.

I've never seen an 88mm piston listed in the Mahle H22 gold series. Do you know if the 1.0 and 10cc pistons are available in that size?

Depending on the block you may get away with that overbore without breaking through the FRM. The blocks I've worked on that a thick enough FRM layer at the top and bottom of the bore. It just depends on how consistent the FRM layer is at the parts you cant see.

see this pic for how thick the layer is after a 87.25 bore.
