Our cars are NOT vented through the gas cap. Older model vehicles were (old v8's from the 60-70's). When the EPA found out that gas fumes were being vented, and it was not good for the environment, and did not allow it anymore.

Our car has what is called an "Evaporative Emissions Control" system. It basically vents the gas tank into the intake manifold, where the fumes are burnt and passed through the catalytic converter (supposedly... ).

I dealt with this vacuum system when I was having issues with my BOV surging (vacuum was not strong enough from the rear-most port on the manifold, so I relocated the BOV vacuum line to the nipple just rear of the throttle body... that is 1 of 2 vacuum sources for the EEC system (the two sources T together under the manifold and go to the purge joint, I think).

John
There would have to be some sort of check valve in place to prevent positive pressure from pushing back into the gas tank.

there is a little hose that runs right next to the hose where u fill the gas up, it is a small vent

then the line that retuned fuel on the original factory set up. i have small hoses on them that go to "no where" and they vent also....i shit canned the evaporating sytem...if i had no vent i wouldnt be able to get gas out of the tank to the engine
