I would HIGHLY recommend everyone tap the girdle instead of the pan. One less thing to worry about.

What exactly is the problem with the oil return and the turbo? Sorry I'm a newb to this stuff so forgive me if I sound too stupid. I would think if its getting oil pressure to the turbo, it would equally force oil out to the pan regardless if its at the pan or in the girdle.

The oil return in the girdle will drain faster than in the pan. The pan will have oil in it at all places you can put a return fitting. The return above the oil level insures the drain won't have oil "stack" back to the turbo.
