keeping my motor cool-help
I have the SOS SC with large IC on my 2.2l. running only ~5lbs of boost and ~280hp. my car is a race car so its always driven very hard. I have a large canton oil cooler and stock radiator. my oil temps can reach 275f on a hot day. i run 10-30 Amsoil and change it frequently. my IC sits in front then the oil cooler and finally my radiator. rarely does my water temp exceed 190f. Ive gotten many suggestions. #1 run thinner oil- it cools off faster. use an oil additive that promises to run cooler. Get a bigger oil cooler. Leave both radiator fans on all the time-with a on off switch. make sure all the air is flowing thru the radaitors.
moving my radiators around so the oil cooler sits in front of the IC radiator would be no simple task. my current oil cooler isnt small. a bigger engine radiator doesnt seem to be needed as my water is just fine. any other thoughts?

If your temperatures are hitting 275F on hot days, I'd say you have to run THICKER oil. 15w-50. A 30w will thin out too much at the high temperatures, viscosity will be too low. You can look up the viscosity versus temperature for different weight oils to compare. It sounds like you just need a bigger oil cooler as your coolant temperatures are perfect.

thinner oil cools off faster and dissapates heat easier. this idea was from a guy who has been building, racing and in the biz for 30 yrs. he runs o/20 in his RX8 grand am car.

Put a fan on the oil cooler. Use hydraulic line instead of braided which encourages heat transfer. Setup a water sprayer similar to STIs that will mist/spray all your heat exhangers(ic, oil cooler, rad, he).
I worked with a guy who eventually went to SPO class in scca that took the idea of the "cool suit" in car ice cooler, and turned that into his oil cooler and rad sprayer. Filled the container with ice and water, and when temps would climb, a little shot of that across the fins took care of the problem for a lap or so. But it has to be a fine spray or mist, dont wanna spray buckets of water on the track. Lol
