Intercooler knowledge 101
someone please enlighten me on how exactly intercoolers are rated for horsepower. What makes one better than the other? density of the layers? density of the metal? flow characteristics? What are the leading brands etc.....
Ofcourse I didnt search, I dont want info from 2002!
Is one specific intercooler design more advantageous for a specific application? Is it a waste of money to have more intercooler than you need? Some of you may roll your eyes at this, but Im here to learn all I can!
I realize most of you dont know what your talking about, but I Figure I'd ask anyway

from what i have learned throughout the years it comes down to size (obviously) and the overall design. there are bar and plate designs, as well as tube and fin designs. from what i am told bar and plate intercoolers offer better 'internal aerodynamics' (meaning airflow inside the cooler is better) and tube and fin designs offer better 'external aerodynamics.'
which one is actually better i'm not sure. i would think the bar and plates are but every side has its own argument.

tube and fin
bar and plate
shaping and sizing of the end tanks is also important. if the end tanks are shaped oddly it can affect airflow and velocity. i'm sure it's all relative to the sizing/thickness/length of the bars/fins.
google is definitely your friend but start with the age old 'bar and plate vs tube and fin' search, as well as end tank design explanations - that should get you some relevant information!

... hahah wow, thumbs down to what? searching on your own to find information?
haha not to mention your questions are self-answerable, just open up your head a little bit and think about it.
