The Vortech controller only pulls 3 degrees of timing in boost. when I ran a E-manage and 440cc RC's the car would detonate in areas under 5000RPM that it never detonated before. I ended up running the Vortech controller for timing, and the blue to run the big injectors.

Well I don't think it is the timing controller.

It would not start again today after leaving it overnight.

I put all the cables back to stock and nothing -- of course the battery was dead (I really should get a new one or just drive the damn thing) -- it hasn't been fully charged or driven in 6 months.

Anyways, I put the charger on for 10 minutes and left everything connected except for the map controller.

Boom it started up -- so I really think it's the map box -- is that possible? Hopefully that's a lot less expensive, I just bought this kit it was suppose to be all working.

Try calling Vortech. I have a Comptech SC and when I was worried about the MAP voltage clamp functioning correctly, they let me send it back to them for verification that it was working and they reset it to the proper voltage free of charge.

For reference, a new MAP voltage clamp for the Comptech kit was about $140

I'd get a new battery 1st. The additional circuitry in the timing controller does make for a longer crank time. Low battery voltage can screw up many things.

Both the MAP clamp and the timing controller intercept major engine operating sensors. All of the wiring needs to be perfect for a long trouble free operation.

It's beyond me why Vortech didn't include both the timing controller and the map clamp prewired on a PnP harness. It would stop most of the problems people have with the kit.

Car sat all day as I installed the water pump and little cooler and stuff behind the front bumper. She still started up ok. Then I went for a drive to see how things ran, seems to run perfectly normal (I'm still N/A) installed piece meal.

Shut the car off, started again fine.

I think I need a new battery -- heck it's the original from 2001!

Did you have both the voltage clamp and timing controller wired up for the drive? If so, then it definitely seems to be a battery issue.

Ok so car sat all night and all day and vroom started right up again.

I really think it was the battery. The first time I wired it up it wouldn't start with a powerful boost with another car but at the time it was sketchy wiring. I redid it much much better, soldering all the connectors on extra wires and such and it's awesome now, no worries about wires falling off.

Anywho, it seems ok now. I'll have to get myself a new battery.
