Help on 30A 12V Fuel Pump Relay
#32
bump- Can anyone recommend a very high quailty and stout relay? We just did this to power my Aeromotive 340 pump and the relay began to give out when it got hot. It started losing fuel pressure up top then just died all together. We plugged the OEM power lead back in and it was fine.

Sorry for bumping an old post.
But when running the thicker wire Battery ----> relay ----> pump harness. You just splice into the thin factory wiring that goes into the harness for the pump?
Even though there's just a foot or so of 18 gauge factory wiring, does that matter? I'm not electrical guru, but woudln't that defeat the purpose of going to a thicker wire from the battery?
and if it's ok. Can I splice into the wire OUTSIDE of the tank? Or do I need to splice as close to the harness as possible?

Wire resistance is also measured on length. So you can use a few feet of thick wire, ending up to a connection to a short but thinner wire. This has alot less voltage drop than one long thin wire.
You can splice the wire on top of the tank. No need to get everything out.
