Head gasket install w/timing chain replacement
Im thinking of doing my own 3mm head gasket install but dont know if i should or not. I have done plenty of b16 and h22 head swaps/gaskets but im not sure if the s2000 is somthing i am really willing to tackle myself. Is it pretty much strait forward just like the rest of the honda engines? I know it has a timing chain instead of a belt which brings me to my next question. When should that be replaced and should i just go ahead and replace it while i have it apart? Also are there any manuals with torqe specs and such in them?

How many mile are on your engine? is it boosted? and the messed up part is to change out the timing chain, All pulleys (even the dreaded crank pulley) must come off, oil pan, then finally strip off the front cover, and do all this in the foot of space up front so you can avoid doing your timing chain unless you REALLY need it, i would wait till the engine is out of the car because you basiclly take the whole thing apart so if your doing timing chain may as well get the thing sleeved, thus the problem with the timing chain.

im not sleeving, doing any internal work, or taking the engine out(unless its absolutely necessary). Its not boosted yet but i will have the oil pan off soon enough when i tap it for the turbo oil drain. Can the head gasket be changed without changing the whole timing chain? The engine just rolled over 100K so im pretty sure that the chain needs to be replaced anyway.

yes you can change your headgasket without changing the timing chain, but if you just popped 100k without ever changing it, changing it would be a good idea especially if you plan to boost, or you could just keep the one you got if it jmps timing change it.

Did you say that the oil pan has to be off in order to change out the headgasket by taking off the timing chain?
Someone please clarify what has to come off in order to swap the HG? Only the neccesary parts. Also would the timing chain have to be modified in any way to take into account the extra thickness of the 3mm HG?

The timming chain has to be pulled, so you can get the cams out, so you can get to the head bolts, so you can change the head gasket.
