Sorry to hear about the damage. As far as the clutch disengagement, I had the same problem with my t56 until I upgraded the CMC to a .750 bore. Might be something to consider if you want more adjustability in the clutch. Good luck with the rebuild.

The invoice says the CMC supplied is 13/16 of an inch.

So the throw out bearing issue…. Did Granna make it right and how was it specd wrong to begin with ?
Care to elaborate on the whole situation with Granna as I was under the impression this was a bolt in kit all in for $9K ?

I believe this is the incorrect part as I was UNABLE to get a proper 4mm air gap between the throw-out bearing and the pressure plate. My tuner at Art of Assembly was able to hook me up with Tilton Part number 62-900 which makes the TOB mount sit about a half inch higher. See images below:

62900 vs 62899
Now after I got that installed, I remeasured the pressure plate clearance and honestly had a lot of trouble with the clutch disengaging fully. Maybe Ill post the video of how I did it. Eventually with enough messing around I was able to get it to disengage fully at the way bottom of the pedal. I also had a ton of problems getting the trans mount to line up. I ended up drilling the mount to make the holes bigger so I could have more clearance. With everything installed I decided to go take it out for a few drives. The pedal is stiff, not ironman clutch stiff, but its a workout. BUT the engagement is smoooooooooooth. This thing doesnt rattle. Its not an on/off switch either. Its awesome. The T56 is a blast to drive. The ratios for a high power car like mine is perfect. Its actually faster than my DCT setup. On the street on 29psi I was able to run 60-100 at just over 2 seconds. Only 29psi!!! Then the fun ended....

I was driving the car and I heard a HORRIBLE sound. Towed the car home on a flatbed. Long story short my flywheel bolts backed out and destroyed the clutch, flywheel, and crankshaft. Don't know why they backed out but they did. Unfortunate.

Any questions feel free to ask.
This is painful to see. I can't say this hasn't happened to me, so I feel your pain. Is it possible the flywheel wasn't seated on the crankshaft completely? That will definitely cause the bolts to back out and ruin everything. Or if the bolts were too short?

That's a good point on the flywheel maybe not being seated fully. This would also explain the issue with clutch adjustments I would think as well.

So, i just found this thread after being sent the link.

I am not sure what caused Max's issue with the flywheel bolts, as I was not involved on the install. But I have installed this same setup personally on my own R&D S2000 and we have put a few hundred miles on it so far without issues. Could be lack of torque, vibration, not seated flat, etc... but like I said, I am not sure as I was not involved in the install.

Also, in terms of the bearing base that i provided with the kit, we setup our car with short base and did not have an issues with needing a taller base to reach the clutch and get the proper air gap in place. I have done a few of these installs so I am pretty seasoned at setting up these hydraulic release bearings...

However, i did swap out the shorter base for the taller base to try and resolve that part for the customer (sent to Art of Assembly).

I talked to another guy who is buying the parts and will be putting the setup in his car so I am hoping he can chime in after he gets it all in and working properly. I have sold probably 1500+ t56 magnums over the past 5-6 years, mostly 2JZ based kits. The Honda F and K bell kits are one of the latest kits we offer, and while the this Honda F20/F22 kit itself may be new the overall principals are the same as every other kit I build and sell.

I do not and will not release parts that are sub-par in any way, and pride myself in making sure customers are happy and satisfied with our parts. I wish I could have been a bit more involved in fixing this situation but I am just now seeing all of it.

Joel

I wonder if the steel spacer/washer that is from the factory was reinstalled. Not sure how it is with this setup, but without that spacer you could run into the bolts bottoming out in the hole before the actual torque is applied on the flywheel, which could cause the bolts to back out.

I know this thread is older but was wondering what the end result was. Did you end up abandoning the kit?
