It's not the cast vs forged pistons as an issue here, so that would not have made a difference.
Yes you are correct the pistons being cast did not lead to the detonation, but they sure failed catostrophicly when it did happen. A forged piston would have surived those detonations.

So engine failure could be from lean condition

Well, those h22 pistons were never meant for boost anyway... lude rods and pistons start failing at 380-400 from what I hear from my prelude buddies.

Was there an OEM gasket or aftermarket?

Another theory is that the pin offset on the h22 piston is opposite from the f20 one, thus causing excessive pressure of the piston up against the cylinder walls. However, a lot of people have been running the setup NA successfully without cracking pistons. Maybe this rears its ugly head under boost? opinions?

According to the magazine article, you are running factory OEM Prelude rods and pistons.

If you do some research on the prelude forums, the factory Prelude pistons are notorious for ring land damage under boost. This is what you have, broken ring lands on your pistons. There are a handful of people who have luck running these under boost but I know a majority of them have this problem.

The cheapest solution for you right now is to run some Mahle Gold pistons. These are the only aftermarket pistons that are compatible with the FRM lined cylinders in the S2000s and Preludes. These pistons come in 9, 10, and 11 compression ratios. These will hold much better to boost than the factory Prelude pistons. If you were going the NA route, you could probably stick with another set of Prelude pistons.

A safe bet would also be to get some H22 Eagle rods and shave down 2mm from each side to fit your crank.

I did a little bit of research and read stock h22 pistons are notorious for having failed ring lands under boost. I looked up pistons and found mahle gold series forged pistons stock sleeving (87mm), and eagle rods for $825. Im going to go ahead and upgrade the rod bearings to ALC or cosworth. also at the top of the connecting rod (near piston pin) its a rainbow color which indicated to me extreme heat to the bottom of the piston area.post pics tomorrow.. Anybody know a better place to get the piston/rods?? Are the stock rods sufficient with the forged pistons?

What do you guys think about i-vtec on the f24c?
