Default Do I need High grade bolts?

I have a vband adapter for the hotside for my turbo. The current grade 10 allen bolts i am using wont let my vband clamp down because the heads on the bolts are too big. I was planning to get bolts with a smaller/thinner head on it and use nordlock washers to hold them in place. Does it matter what kind of grade bolts I use or do I have to use special ones to withstand the heat? I will have the hot side wrapped in ATP wrap also before it goes on. Just wondering if I can go to homedepot and get the thread pitch I need and bolt.

I'm having difficulty visualizing your issue; could you post a pic? Regarding your bolt selection, you can use stainless steel bolts from Home Depot.

ill try taking some. So I have a 6 bolt flange that has a vband welded onto it. The bolts holding the downpipe adapter on hits the vband clamp because it wasn't welded far away enough so I need bolts with smaller head on them to fit.

I see. How much clearance do you have between the flange with the vband actually attached? (meaning, without any bolts)

I would tap the holes and bolt from the back...can't believe someone made something that tight!

what do you mean bolt from the back? I will have to check. The allen bolts are what im using now, they do not fit as I said earlier.

Countersink the holes and use the allen bolts

So your saying to get a machine shop to machine it to get the bolt to sit flush?

Yeah that's what I would do. Have them counter sink it a 1/4"-3/8" in deep so it goes in enough to clear the clamp. The good news is you won't have to worry about your bolts backing out and losing them
