DIY write up for the rear plastic tray?
I searched to see if there was a detailed write up on removing the rear tray for a fuel pump install but didnt find anything definitive... did anybody ever make a write up for it?

I pretty much just pulled and prodded with a flathead screwdriver and everything came out. It's a fancy clip system.
I took one look at going in through the trunk and decided from the top would be easier. Had the pump changed in minutes.

Look in the Under the Hood FAQ DIY sticky for "Robbins Top install" (or there abouts)...the instructions from Cyclon for top replacement include removing the rear shelf.

pry out all the clips and lift out the rear tray. undo the 8mm bolts on the cap that covers the fuel tank. look in and it's pretty straightforward what you need to do to remove the pump assembly and then the pump

you dont need to remoive the back piece reach in from the trunk

the rear try needs to be removed in order to create enough clearance to remove the fuel pump.

^^^ truth.
It's not that hard really. There are 7 push clip to take out and then it just pops out. Just get inside your car facing backwards, pull out the thin strip on top (plastic, vertical, under the base of the window). Then push in the center piece of the push pins with a very small screwdriver and pull them out. Pop the bottom tray and you're done.

I just did this last weekend!
7 Pushpins : push in with a blunt tool so you dont scratch them
Vertical long plastic trim piece pull it out
It's easier to remove the rear tray from the trunk. You'll need to remove the trunk trim
remove the lid - 3 screws - careful, don't cut yourself. That lid is mighty sharp. Looks like it was made in China.
unplug the pump harness
then remove the 8 8mm bolts - don't drop them, you may not find them
Pull the hanger out, slowly. You'll need to rotate, slant it toward the driver side and somewhat forward to get the plunger to come thru.
I did this from the trunk side. I'm standard Japanese height @ 5"6" (I'm not Japanese - just my height) so not too difficult to stick half my body into trunk and had my feet supported on my daily driver parked right behind
