Dayco belt failed
Hi guys,
The bloody belt that drives the comptech SC had failed, it has split in half. I've only done around 1500-2000 miles on it - it might of been because the belt was too tight but I'm not sure?. I set it tight and never adjusted as the belt would stretch shortly after being used.
Unfortunately trying to get hold of a belt in the UK is a PITA
Its a Dayco Ribbed belt no. 5060390. Is the equivalent a 'Gates gatorback' and is the part number 6PK0990??
I'm running a 4" pulley which yields just over 8psi at redline, I'm sure this is the correct Dayco belt to use?
Are Gates belts considered better than Dayco, and has anyone had a belt fail like this?

Just unfortunate luck.
From memory (like 3yrs ago), a 6pk 990 is about the right sized fitment.
One of my belts split in the past, because a bolt head was rubbing against the belt. It was the bolt that holds the alternator bracket in place. It had wobbled lose, and came out far enough for the belt to rub against it, splitting my belt from 6 ribs to 3. Just have a check something similar hasn't happened to you. If not, its just bad luck, possibly an old belt or something.
