Crankshaft Machining
Hello everyone, I am about to buy a motor with a spun bearing for a good deal, and was wondering instead of buying a new crank why not put the money into grinding and recoating the original. I have heard mixed things with this for Honda cranks and wanted to see if any of you have done this. F22c cranks are hard to find and pretty pricey. Well lets hear it! Also I am planning on building this engine for turbo.

You can have a machine shop regrind your crank, its pretty standard practice. You will need over size bearings, acl sells a set. I ran reground f22 crank @ around 400 hp for 2 years with no problems. Motor did eventually die with a spun rod bearing however it was due to detonation. Shops can also use crankshaft welders to build material up and regrind to factory specs, howver it can be a little pricey to have done. I think the machine shop charged me around $90 for a regrind on my crank.

Save the headache and just find a good crank. thats what i would do. If it can be cleaned up with a polish then you wont run into any issues. I work at a machine shop that does mostly Honda builds. Grinding crank and getting bigger bearings isnt worth the hassle....thats my 2 cents
