Honda uses the oil "heat exchanger" as a way to warm the oil when the motor is cold. As a cooler, it doesn't really do a whole lot. If you want lower oil temps, run an aftermarket oil cooler that will see sufficient air flow.

It shouldn't matter, it'd be no different than running your oil relocation kit. It didn't utilize the oil cooler.
The only concern I would have is the fact that it is so close to the turbo manifold. Maybe a small heat shield would help?? Or maybe just get some of the stick on heat stuff and put it on your filter and keep some spare for oil changes?? haha

This worked well - my clearances are tight and the filter never gets hot.

I recommend removing the oil filter and warmer/cooler. You can buy a new spigot to mount an adaptor from Honda for a few bucks. Then relocate your filter and use an aftermarket air/oil cooler.
There is so much room at the front of the car and so little down beside the engine that this just makes good sense.

Are you sure about this? Because the oil will warm up way before the coolant so this wouldnt be true and would mean its meant to help keep the oil temps at bay.
The heat exchanger does help a tiny bit when oil temps get way up there, but it's not like you're cooling the oil with cool coolant.

oil deff. doesn't warm up before the coolant does. you can tell by looking at the pressure of the oil if you don't have an oil temp gauge.
