Default Boost by gear vs speed

Was talking to a friend who keeps trying to lean me more towards another tuner who uses boost by speed instead of gear. He mentions how he feels his car hooks better and gets more boost in each gear. The question I have for everyone is which do you think is best for a drag application? Read up on Evans website about the two but was looking for more insight. Currently using boost by gear and wondering if I would see much of an advantage going with boost by speed.

boost by speed is best for the drag strip.

boost by gear for everything else.

If you are making gobs of power then boost by speed can help keep boost down until you are about mid way through a gear to protect drivetrain components. I don't think you are running that much boost or making that much power so boost by gear is perfectly fine for a street setup.

We're talking about the same thing. Boost by Gear is in fact using the speed sensor/rpm to determine gear.

True, but when you refer to boost by speed it is more of a "custom" boost by gear setup haha. So you can pick whatever speeds you want that work rather than whatever is the mph max for each gear.

Yea for sure. Certainly takes more time to setup correctly.

I don't see why you would need a different tuner. If that is what you want then get your current tuner to set it up for speed instead of gear. You really should be going off of front wheel speed to do this right though.

WE are talking about the same thing here. If you want a detailed article on it they talk extensively about boost by gear or speed here: http://www.enginebasics.com/EFI%20Tu...By%20Gear.html

There is a difference between road speed and rear wheel speed.
