Sorry to hear. 3mm head gaskets are a waste of time. For the little extra hp, it is not worth it. With a stock head gasket, you can make 500hp plus on 93 and up to 800 hp on race gas.

Yeah good luck with that, you might get one 800hp pull once, then the car is going to explode. 800HP, 500hp is not so easy, expect issues.

Hey guys. Newbie turbo owner here. Finished my build 2 weeks ago.

I havent had time to instal my gauges yet. Gonna do them next week.

But for now Ive been using the OEM cluster temp gauge to monitor my temperature.

When I was NA it would always sit just below halfway, like 1 bar below halfway.

However since ive been turbo, ive noticed that on a few occasions the temperature has jumped a bar and sometime two bars to just over halfway! But it only lasts like a couple minutes then it returns to normal temperature.

Is this normal or do I also have an overheating issue.

Should the temperature increase now and then a bit or should it always remain constant no matter what?

BTW stock motor, stock gasket! we not doing big numbers. Less than 300hp @ 6psi.
To know if you're overheating, you have to know what those bar temps actually mean. Take a look at this:

Your stock gauge layout is on the left. As you can see, if you're halfway on the stock layout, you're at least @ 235*. That's pretty much the danger zone. Unfortunately, the resolution on the stock cluster is so bad its a crap shoot between the third and fourth bar. I wouldn't want my car going above 210*, but there's no way to know with the stock stuff.

Remember, the stock thermostat and fan come on at 190*...that's the temp the radiator and fan are trying to maintain. If you're @ 235*, there's a limitation somewhere that needs to be addressed.
My stock display looks nothing like that. Ill take a pic later for refernce purposes. I drove the car pretty hard last night and gauge didnt move at all so I doubt I have any major issues.

Then you must have an AP2. Totally different gauge, not sure if the resolution is any better over the AP1

Yeah I have an AP2 but with the AP1 motor. I went racing last night and overdid the boosting a little. After lettting her idle for a couple minutes and switching off, i saw a water leak. When i opened the bonnet I saw some of the water had boiled over the top of the bottle. Not alot, id say like 100mm. I should have driven the car around out of boost for at least 5 minutes to cool down before I parked her!

I was driving the car extremely hard. My temp gauge only went up a bar or two max for a short period of time then back to normal again. Is this normal for a turbocharged S? I know turbo cars do suffer badly from heat but Im a little concerned mine is a little worst than most. Any advice how to remedy this?

BTW Was racing a turbocharged Honda Type R. Same turbo(gt3076R) and compression except Im boosting 0.4 and him 0.7. Beat him quite easily. Was quite surprized. I see now why Turbo S have so much street cred. They another animal.

A member mentioned to me now that perhaps my intercooler is blocking the stock radiator?

As it is a fairly wide intercooler and its mounted in front of the radiator.

yea you may need to upgrade your rad to a mishi or the like. You should probably move your intercooler up or down so that some of the rad is exposed. I'll try and take a pic of mine later but shes up on stands from an oil pump change that I'm in the middle of.

Here are the AP2 temps

If that 9th bar lights up, you're on the road to trouble
