Another XPerformance FAIL (BMW DCT Adapter Kit)
#21
To update this (I dont work for Xperformance, just know them very well and I've been doing testing for this particular kit), there has been a ton of testing put in and updated parts have been sent out to everyone. I've got several track days and around 6k miles of hard use on the current DCT kit with zero issues at all.
The problem with the original flywheel came down to harmonics. The splined center that was originally being used is exactly the same part from a popular bmw flywheel which never had any issues in the Bmw with the i6 or v8. In my car the solid hub lasted 3 minutes. Then I tested the adamat part (they have since updated, but I have not tested the updated part) and I broke that in about 200 miles. The pictures below are about the 3rd version of this flywheel I tested. With all the track days, street driving and probably 100+ launches off the 2step and 9500rpm shifts with around 550hp it's been perfect.
My car is controlled by maxxecu and I have acquired the software needed to write custom firmware for the BMW TCU, so I have solved the high rpm failsafe, adjusted auto shift points, increased line pressure, etc, etc. This setup works incredibly well and other than some grinding to fit requires no modification to the transmission like HTG does... The electronics for the transmission are plug-n-play. I know Xp is working on jumper harnesses for the maxxecu race, no idea when those will be ready.
Here's a video from a track day last November, there are a few other video's on my channel as well.

I still don't understand why people didn't buy into the ppg trans. It has been proven to be plenty reliable. In my opinion these kits ruin the car as the shifter is one of the best ever made. And let me tell you if you can shift right ots very rewarding

The ppg gear set will still break, the case is ultimately the problem.

Last I checked a ppg set was around $8k and at the time they were not building and synchro sets. Zero chance I want to daily drive a dog box.
It's fine if you don't like it and want to keep a manual trans. That's why I have 2 s2000's. My other one is mostly stock.
The point of this post is that we have the issues resolved and this is a solid option. Not really to debate manual vs dct

No one makes an aftermarket case. There are tons of pictures of broken cases with ppg gears around here.

These swap kits are not "solid options". They are simply being pushed because shops can make more money.
