Aem ems users.
Hey ems owners I have a quick question. My tuner had forgotten to give me my cable to hook up from the ems to a laptop. I was wondering what cable can I buy from radio shack to use. Will any ol serial cable work? Also if i wanted to use my usb port is there a cable that will have a serial to usb. If so do you have a part name or number by any chance. After looking at my laptop I am not so sure if i have a serial port on here. Thanks for the help guys.

The EMS uses a standard straight-through 9 pin serial cable.
AEM recommends either on board serial bus or PC card adaptor. Some users have used USB adaptors, however, there is a concern with data transmission being corrupted. The most commonly used USB adaptor appears to be the I/O Gear model which you can find online for around $30.00 (www.newegg.com).
Cheers,

I use a standard serial cable from RadioShack and have used the IOgear USB to Serial converter from Best Buy. It worked just fine. I also tried a Belkin USB-Serial, but it was a piece of crap and didn't work.
