Default 3" Dual vs. 3" Single

I have always herd a 3" single is the way to go for turbo, would a 3" dual be a step down?

right now im running a 2.5" resonated single and needing to upgrade since i have a 3" downpipe. I miss the look of duals tho.

This has been discusses a few times. Read this thread and decide for yourself. Ultimately 3 inch single will flow best but it is the loudest. I like duals myself so went with Asura

It is illogical that a 3 inch single would flow better than 3 inch duals with but only one exception: exhaust gas velocity can be optimized because the gasses take few turns to exit the piping.

For huge HP cars (ie. 600HP+), I cannot understand why, outside of weight, a 3 inch single would be more advantageous than a 3" dual.

I think you just answered your own question. Problem is outside of a custom setup there are few true dual 3 inch systems.

i like the look of a dual on this car so i went with asura.

i was reading on Kennebell.net and they had a simple test to see if exhaust was restriction.

put car on dyno, make pull. remove exhaust, make pull, did power change?

i laughed, but honestly, its the way to test. they say your exhaust is restrictive only if you gain power by removing it, otherwise, its doing the job just fine.

3" single or dual, both are better then stock on a FI car, so which ever you do will be fine. and honestly, if you lose power , how much power we talking about? 5hp thru rev range, just 10 up top? if your turbo, crank the boost 1psi and make up the difference.

u really gonna feel 5hp on a car making 350+? i dont think so

I'm w/Cman, I went w/duals on my car, only b/c it looks "funny" w/o them.

I have 3" all the way back split into 3" duals.

If I'd have been smart, I would have went 3" back, and split into 2.5" w/still outflows a 3" single.

FYI, 3" of pipe was hard to manueaver back in there.

Because this car does not utilize a true dual exhaust.

Agreed. But if we're talking about back pressure, it is a lie to claim that a 3 inch dual flows better than a 3 inch single. The restriction at that point is really at the header collector or downpipe and is dependent on the diameter/flow there.

^ Well, the Y-Pipe and decrease in piping diameter at the split probably isn't too beneficial either.

Yea sorry im sure this has been discussed but i couldnt get the search to work. Is the ASURA exhaust 3" at the inlet? and 3" at the mufflers?

Is a custom setup my only option as far as getting 3" piping throughout the entire exhaust and no resonator?
