Stick with stock and find out what caused the failure. I suspect that something else failed which lead to the whole motor going to hell.

Sounds like a case of bad luck.

What whole motor ? The head is looking good and the block looks good wont know for sure til machine shop looks at it,
I saw multiple stock bore pistons, why do I HAVE to sleeve anything ..... It's 87mm stock, if I go to 87.5 and get pistons to match I'm laughing

I really just want to buy a built block, not even worry about my block ......
New oil pump all new parts .... Should be good to go ... In the meantime I'm going to send out my oil and have it checked ......

Anyone know what a new shirt block from Honda is worth ??

Thanks

http://www.bernardiparts.com

look it up here...

Your power goals dont justify a built block. Ive heard countless stories of engine failures caused by built blocks with only 1000 miles on them. Why complicate things and change so many variables when the OEM solution works, its tried and tested and works 99% of the time. Im suspecting something was bad in the motor you had and it would have broke whether you were boosted or not.

700hp+ would warrant a built block for longevity, the OEM bottom end will hold 450whp all day long. At the end of the day its your money and potential headache.

Id buy a new short block, then keep your broken one as a spare and in the future if you want to go for big horsepower you can build that and swap it out.

And lastly, what kind of oil were you running in the car?

man new short block is 3700 shipped (Im in canada so ad duty)..... why are you guys all against say a laskey build block for 3500... that benson sleeved, benson micropolished and balanced crank, cp pistons, rods, bearings......

and I still dont get why I cant just put some pistons and rods in my block... a new crank is only $918.00.... so if my block is good and crank is bad and I get all new stuff $1500 from RSP for everything and a new crank thats 2500 plus machining ... probably another 6-700..... thats 3200 with new crank, bearings, pistons, rods, oil pump, block guard, EVERYTHING....

my goal of 450 as most of you know will probably change after I feel 450 and get used to it .....

stock is MORE then a fully built and sleeved set up and WAY more then a mild build.....

very strange .....

I thought I was pretty clear as to why you shouldn't. What kind of oil were you running ?

just seems a little strange..... my buddy has a fully built sti had all kinds of problems.. got them sorted out ... now hes golden.... all season ... daily .....

and I was using mobil 1 10-30.....

thanks
