S2000 with a non working vafc
I just recently acquired an ap1. It is throwing two codes P0170 and P0172. It's running rich, stalls and backfires. I'm trying pin point the problem by starting with this vafc that I don't know anything about except it doesn't turn on. Is it possible that this is a solution ?

First of all, the vafc isnt your reason for running rich. You can't add fuel with it you can only add oxygen, which means you'd only be able to lean out with it not be rich. Is it connected with a boomslang harness or tapped into your ecu?
1- Rip off that vafc, don't mess with it if you don't have a wideband and you don't know what your doing.
2- Reset the ecu.
3- Let the car idle for 10-15 minutes to "relearn" it's air and fuel ratios.
4- Take it for a test drive and report back here.
Although I'm almost positive it's not that it won't hurt to try it, and its best to not have that vafc connected if you don't know the settings on it are safe from the previous owner.
Im almost sure your main problem is your fuel pressure regulator gone bad, heck maybe even the previous owner added an aftermarket one and messed with the fuel system to be able to add fuel with the vafc too. Post a pic of your fuel regulator.
Here's a link a found for reference go ahead and read it
