aem series 2 general info
Hello I am fairly new to tuning cars and have at the moment :
India q 300 exhaust
Berk test pipe
K&n induction kit
My next step to gain more hp is to purchase a ecu . So I have been told (i have a ap1 model)
My question is , what exactly does the ecu do and is it worth the price ?
Also I was going to buy a spoon throttle body is this also something that you recommend ?
Thanks

With the mods you currently have, I don't really think that dropping $1400 on an EMS would really be worth it. That said though, if you ever were to need to tune your car the AEM EMS would be one of your only options (aside from Haltech) as the AP1 models can't run a piggyback system.

So what sort of mods do people have on there sk2's to make them buy a ecu then ( I'm confused )
Would you recommend I remap the car then ?
What do you think about a throttle body ?

For the OP, have you even gone to AEM's website to look at what an AEM EMS would do for you?
AP1 with the OEM ECU can ONLY be run with a piggyback system if you want to tune it.

I've seen the same story elsewhere.

I don't think you know what a piggyback system is. Basically, it's wire tapping with signal manipulation. 00-05 all had a non-reprgrammable ECU so in order to maintain it and also "tune", a piggyback is your only option. The Greddy E-Manage and Apexi are both piggyback systems and is what most do for tuning aside from swapping out the ECU. I have had the E-Manage and now use the AEM (stand-alone).

Hmmm... Seems like some other people are talking about using the E-Manage system on their AP1s.

Interesting, it looks like maybe I should spend some more time looking into this. Thanks for the info, this may actually be relevant to me later
