Thumbs up Wiring Sub and Amp to Stock HU

Hey guys. I'm new to all this audio installation but I'm planning on connecting my amplifier to my stock headunit. I know that there is an adapter to convert high level (speaker) signal to Low Level (RCA) but my amplifier has the inputs for the high level speaker signal. Would there be any advantage to use the adapter or should i just directly connect the two via the high level speaker signal. Also, if i used the front speaker output for my signal source for my subwoofer, would this influence the sound quality of my front speaker? (Maybe rob the front speakers of its already minimal power?) Thanks guys!

I feed my sub amp with a high level input and no in-line converters. I've also got the Lucid rear speakers/panels, which is where I tapped the sub signal. If you're not using the rear speaker outputs from the headunit, you can go straight to the amp from there.

The lucid site is down until next week. What does the Lucid rear speakers panel do and how much does it cost?

The factory headunits have unused rear channel outputs. In order to take advantage of the extra power/outputs available, Jim ("Lucid") offers replacement trim panels behind the seats with precut holes where you can mount rear channel speakers. Some on this board think rear speakers ruin the sound stage; however, all generally agree that they provide more cabin "fill" which significantly improves the sound during top-down highway driving.

It's been awhile since I did this, but I think he charges a little over $100 for the panels (w/o speakers) and the wiring harness to connect the rear speaker wires to the back of the headunit. He also sells the panels with a choice of speakers already installed. The cost varies with the quality of the speakers you choose. If you're handy with a jigsaw, you might consider cutting the holes in the panels yourself like others have done. Just be careful to mark the hole so the speaker magnet clears the metal frame/brace behind the panels.

If I'm not mistaken, the newer ('06 & '07 ? ) cars have roll hoop mounted
speakers which presumably use those previously unused rear channels.

I use an in-line converter that converts speaker wire into RCA wires. My amp only takes RCA inputs. The converter also increases the preamp signal to 5V which is nice.

I was thinking of trying the install without the in-line converter first and see how it sounds. Hopefully it wont sound funny since i'm drawing the signal from the rear speaker output.

I think oth is right -- your car came with the rear channels prewired for installation of the Honda accessory roll hoop speakers. You'll have to find out from someone with a late model s2k just where those rear speaker leads are hiding in the back and what color they are.
