if you have front rca outs, rear rca outs and sub rca outs , then i would run them all to each amp, this will give you fader control from radio and sub control from radio, i would not worry much about the 2 or 4 volt pre out in your system, it will work just fine, if it does bother you , you can buy a line driver to increase input voltage, but i would try it without.

so is anyone familiar with the advantages of 2volt vs 4volt pre outs? based on what i've read, it seems most new decks come w/ 2 or even 3 pre outs.
if thats the case then i can simply connect my 2 amps to the pre outs on the deck and forget having to run rcas from amp to amp, correct?
i'm assuming that with a deck that has 2-4volt pre outs (do they make any?) that my system will sound better?

If you get a newer head unit with multiple sets of Preout connections, then you would connect the main and sub amps seperately to the HU. With your existing setup, you would daisy chain the amps. The main downside of this is the lack of independent control of sub level from the HU.

I agree- I'm generally in favor of running gear that you have - you can
always upgrade later. Here's what I would do to make that upgrade easy:
run a four-channel RCA from the headunit to amp #1, but initially you'll
only use two of those channels because (of course) your headunit only has
one pair of preouts. then connect amp #2 to amp #1 as you had planned.
Now if you decide to upgrade your headunit later, you won't have to rewire,
just change around a few RCA connections.

ok heres my set up
Kenwood head unit running 1 set of RCA's to a Pioneer 2-channel amp. This amp has pre-out inputs and output connections so, i'm gonna run another RCA from the pioneer rca output to the 2nd amp which is an Alpine mono amp to power the woofer. The pioneer I will wire to my componenets in the doors. I will also daisy chain the remote wire from head unit to amp to amp.
My head unit has a subwoofer pre out volume control, can't I use this to make adjustments in car? It will work but I won't be able to independently adjust the component woofers & the sub in the trunk right? For this I would make adjustments on the gains on the amps? FYI my components have a passive crossover don't know if that will make a difference in all this.
