Default Wire gauge for speakers.

Real quick I am running a 160a2 split to my front RSD216's. Well right now I have the stock style wires running to the door speakers and need to know if this is enough to cover the power that I am sending to each speaker. I just ran 4 gauge to the back of the car and used a distribution vox to split and feed both my amps with 8 gauge power in and ground. I just reran the amp wiring and having never had such nice dooe speakers I don't know what I need to run for the them,

Any help thanks in advacew I am hopping to get this done tommorow if possible as I have some time to tear the car down agian.

Also I ordered my PPI 4800 yesterday and it will be in soon so I can start with the new sub/amp enclosures next.

The right wire size depends on who's doing it. 16 gauge would probably be adequate (the factory wiring is 20 gauge or smaller, I forget) but you could go a bit further and do 14 or 12. I had an utterly horrific time getting my flat 12 gauge wire through the door membranes. Since then I've read of some tricks - like pushing a coat hanger through then using it to pull wire into the door. If only I had thought of it back then! Generally the task will be easier with smaller wire.

In any case it's a PITA - if a shop is doing it for you, try to get them to do 12 or 14 gauge, though again, 16 would probably work just fine.

Have fun Stormy, I want to hear this thing when you're done!

16 gauge should be fine for that length of run.....soap suds and an 20 inch zip tie will make this a 10 minute job per side. push from the inside of the car through to the door....this length of zip tie is fairly stiff but flexible....push hard and set aside a few bandaids for skinned hands.

I hate to say this but it is only a 10 mintue job if you have no amps, now I am off to buy wire. As I have already run my RCA's to the back it is a simple replacement job. I doubt that I will have any trouble, I am getting real good at the whole take you car apart every weeknd thing and get it back together by monday rutine.

JZR, it will be up there with your system soon. My shop just alle me they have the new Q sereis stuff in stock now. So I can trade my Rsd's in and get Q for about 250 bucks. Now all I to do it pick some 8-9 inch subs that fit air space wise in the box and I can start to do some of the fine turning stuff.
