I have some Polk GXR speakers with my '01 headunit. I also have Kenwood Passive crossovers and '02 tweeters. This is a temporary set-up. Can I even run the '02 tweeters with the co-axial Polks? Should I just leave the tweeters disconnected until I get a new head unit and maybe some component speakers. If I can do this, do I just hook up the tweeters and the speakers to the crossovers. I read something about the stock tweeters not being true tweeters and they split power from the stock '02 speakers. I think the crossover is just a small capacitor on the '02 tweeter.

You're correct about the capacitor in the '02, which serves as a basic crossover. But that doesn't mean it's not a "true" tweeter. All component sets split power between a midrange and a tweeter this way, the only difference is that the crossover is packaged in a pretty plastic and lexan box.

Electrically, there's no reason why you can't just drop a coax into the lower door and leave it in with the stock tweeter. However, you'll probably find that it would be a little bright sounding, since you'd be running 2 tweeters on each side (1 in the coax, plus the '02 tweeter). Your best bet is probably to just run with the coax for a while, until you get can get a decent component set.

Hi:
When I installed my coax speakers in I just left the tweeters hooked up as they were so I have 2 tweeters on each side. I don't notice any particular brightness BUT I'm not sure I could notice it. There is a saying that by the time you are able to afford a top end audio system you are too old to appreciate it. Eh, speak up, stop mumbling
