A whole bunch of audio-system questions
Greetings all;
I am currently in the works of parting together a system for the S. I've been using a Sony HU since I bought the car and some half-decent 6.5s. I purchased a Cadence Z4000 amp from a member the other day, and have a wiring kit and sub box on the way. I'm having a rough time picking out what component system and sub that will match the amp's capabilities. It's a four channel 75x4 @ 4ohm, 150x4 @ 2ohm.
Here's the link to the manual for the Z series amps.
http://www.cadencestore.com/cadence_manual...0Z%20MANUAL.pdf
I THINK the relevant page to my case would be page 22.
What I want to do, if I'm reading right... is wire 2 component speakers into channels 1 and 2 at 4ohms. And bridge channels 3/4 into one 4ohm sub.
So i'd be looking for some component speakers that can handle 75W RMS at 4ohm.
Does the sub need to be dual voice? If so, I am assuming that the total RMS output of the sub will be 150W RMS? What "specs" should I be looking for in a sub... Obviously something that can handle 150W rms, fit into my box. But.. what sort of freq. ranges do you all recommend and such?
Any suggestions or confirmations of my logic up there would be great. I've got my EE degree, but for some reason this car audio crap does not come that easily to my head.

Most component speakers will handle 75w fine. And many subs will work well with 300w. What are the specifications (volume and sub diameter) for your sub box?
As you may have seen reading other posts, speaker selection is the most subjective element of the audio chain. Provide a rough budget, type of music you mostly listen to and "tonality" preferences (bright/detailed vs warm/laid back is a typical one for components) and people can provide some recommendations.

I'm not really looking for any 'omgbadass' sound system, to be honest. Just a good upgrade over what I'm doing.
Budget wise... I have ordered one of the ebay sub boxes mentioned in a previous thread as being one of the better ones for the price. I can't link ebay since I'm at work right now (weird IT rules..).
Basically I'm looking at anything up to about $125 for components and something up to 75-100 for a 10" sub.
Essentially, I have ~200 bucks left to spare.
I had considered picking up a Rockford Fos. 10" sub/box combo from crutchfield, but the sale price went away the other day and its less appealing.
As for my music tastes.... I prefer a set of speakers that can do just about anything. My ipod playlist is vast and broad. I love anything from NIN to Mos Def to electronica and beyond.
Does that help anymore? D;
