usa spec ipod adapter
i am wondering if anyone had some feedback on this product and how well it works with an iphone 3gs? also when you plug it in does it lock you out of your iphone functions? i am wondering becasue i wanted to know if you could swich into a music app and play music from that using this adapter? like if i wanted to go into the pandora app or satilite radio app and play music from that would it allow me to do it, and play through the head unit?

I bought one brand new from usa-spec about 3 weeks ago. wired it up, charged the iphone 3gs and nothing else happened. Called USA-Spec. They said it was because the Honda factory ground was not turning on the unit. So they told me to wire in a relay (soldering and heat shrinking all wires of course) so when I turn on ignition, it grounds the usa-spec in order to power it on. Well it came on and worked great, then turned off car and it never turned back on again unless i unplugged the unit each time. Also changed the dip switches and no dice there either.
I had bad luck but i will say that USA-SPEC tech support was the best tech support i have talked to in a long time.
I think the problem was I have the XM radio. If you have the regular CD player i think there will be no issues. YMMV

Also, there are different ways you can program it. you can control the iphone thru the radio (locks the phone out) or you can control everything from iphone. This is all explained in the manual as well.

hmmm, i am still kind of iffy about this product. i am happy to hear you can contol the iphone yourself with this. i was planning on just getting an rca hookup, that way i could have all audio from the iphone go through the head unit with no worries and call it a day. only reason i wanted something like this is because i want it to charge while it's hooked up. thanks for the input. keep it coming

IIRC there are cables that connect to the dock connector and split off audio and power on the other end. You'd need an aux input (or a new HU with one) as well, of course.
