Tweeter Ideas Needed
I bought a set of Alphasonik PCT6501 component speakers for my AP2. When they arrived, I was surprised at how large the tweeters are; they are enclosed in a metal housing that is about 2.25" dia - too wide to fit between the stock tweeter mounting posts (insufficient research on my part! ). I have a strong preference for keeping the tweeters in the stock location for reasons of stealth, so now I'm trying to figure out what to do.
A couple of my thoughts:
- Does anyone have any experience with these speakers? It doesn't look like I can remove the tweeters from the metal casing without damaging them. Has anyone tried?
- How bad are the OEM tweeters? Could I use them with the Alphasonik 6.5 midbass speakers? I plan to biamp them off of the HU (Clarion DXZ 785USB, which has active crossovers), so each speaker will get it's own 18W.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

I have the SEAS Prestige 1" textile neo-dome tweeters in my S and in my truck. Installed them in the truck, loved them so much that I bought a pair for my S.
1 piece of advice, if you go this route, use some goop or epoxy to coat the tinsel leads or the leads will break.
The LPG tweeters they sell are also very popular for car audio and you won't have to worry about the leads.
The Seas tweeters in the S needed some dremel work to fit between the posts (dremeled the lip flat on both sides to fit the posts, the posts to get the tweeter to fit down, the edges on the back of the OEM cover, and cut a larger hole in the grill, then covered the thing with speaker grille cloth - also from madisound). I'll see about getting some pics shortly.

Left is my old Diamond Audio tweeter, right is the SEAS Prestige 27TFFNC/G tweeter.
Again: Left is Diamond Audio, right is SEAS
Here you can see the broken tinsel lead. A dab of goop or other epoxy in that opening will keep this from happening.
Modified tweeter mount. Note the notch in the post on the right.
Modified speaker grille from the front.
Installed on the driver side
From across the cockpit. It's really not that noticeable in daylight - flash ftl...
