Toning down a

I kept my head unit, but put an amp and some JL Audio seperates in my car. The JL Audio speakers sounded quite neutral in the store, but now that my tweeters are in the "A"-pillars, they sound quite different!
The tweeters are facing the windshield, rather than facing the cockpit, and it provides a nice, broad soundstage for the audio image. Unfortunately, I've got this very bright, "whispiness" to music, especially female vocals and anything with cymbals or a drumkit. I've already turned the crossovers down to their lowest (-2.5 db), which lets me keep the head unit's treble control almost flat.
Short of getting a head unit with an EQ, or a separate EQ, does anyone have any ideas on how to tone-down the upper reaches?
Thanks,
David
